Tesco faces backlash over Sunday plans

Tesco is encountering significant opposition regarding its proposal to open its Hebridean branch on Sundays. The Isle of Lewis, known for its strong adherence to Sabbatarianism, has a population of around 20,000, with many valuing the traditional observance of the Lord’s Day. Rev Kenneth Stewart of the Reformed Presbyterian Church said: “This is a place which has historically observed the Lord’s Day,” and he urged Tesco to reconsider its plans. The local council has granted Tesco permission to operate seven days a week, but clerics warn of the potential repercussions on the community’s way of life.
