Labour considers EU visa deal for under-30s

Sir Keir Starmer is reportedly considering an agreement to allow 18 to 30-year-olds in the UK and EU to live, work and study in each other’s countries. A revamped youth visa scheme to allow greater freedom of movement for under-30s is likely a requirement for the UK to secure a “reset” in relations with Brussels. Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary, has insisted that Labour was not in favour of such a scheme, but behind the scenes, both sides have indicated a willingness to compromise, according to the Telegraph. Cooper on Sunday maintained that reducing net migration remained the UK’s priority over any new agreement on youth mobility. Meanwhile, the PM is set to discuss a UK-EU security and defence pact when he visits Brussels and improved customs arrangements. The Guardian explains that any reset would require the UK to cede ground on fishing rights.
