Sixth form college teachers walk out in ongoing pay dispute

Around 2,000 teachers at 32 non-academised sixth form colleges walked out on strike yesterday, with two more strike days planned for next Thursday and Friday. The strike by National Education Union (NEU) members came amid an ongoing dispute over the government’s failure to fully fund its 5.5% pay increase for non-academised college teachers. NEU general secretary Daniel Kebede claimed the government had “shamefully allowed our dispute to drag on into 2025,” saying it “has it well within its power to address this issue of pay disparity between academised and non-academised sixth form colleges, rather than endorsing the creation of a two-tier pay system.” The NASUWT is now also balloting its members in sixth form colleges over possible action.
