Tesco plans head office restructure with job cuts

Tesco plans to cut 180 roles at its Welwyn Garden City headquarters as part of a restructuring aimed at adapting to changing shopping habits and improving efficiency. The supermarket said the proposals will also create around 250 new roles within existing teams, although details have not been disclosed. Chief executive Ken Murphy said the business must remain agile in a highly competitive market while continuing to deliver value for customers. Tesco is consulting with union Usdaw on the changes. The retailer cut about 400 jobs last year across bakeries, mobile phone operations and head office functions as part of a wider simplification programme. Tesco expects annual profits of £2.9bn to £3.1bn.
