Cordella Bart-Stewart, an immigration and asylum tribunal judge, has expressed her concern about racism within the justice system, particularly her experiences with security staff at Birmingham’s court centre who insist on searching her. Bart-Stewart, who is one of the UK’s few black judges, talked about the challenges she faces at the launch of the UK Association of Black Judges. She remarked: “I can’t pretend that it is not frustrating to keep reading Ministry of Justice data that tells me that I am of a demographic that is the least likely person to be appointed to the judiciary.”
